Veneers Q & A

               What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, porcelain covers for the fronts of your teeth. They’re custom-made in a dental lab to fit your teeth exactly, then the team bonds them to your teeth to create a beautiful, uniform smile. The porcelain is tinted to match your neighboring teeth and ensure a natural-looking appearance.

Dental veneers are strong and durable. They’re also stain-resistant so you don’t need to worry about your smile becoming discolored. With proper care, veneers last for 10 years or more.

What dental imperfections do veneers correct?

The team uses dental veneers to create beautiful smiles, correcting a variety of imperfections, including:

  • Unevenly sized or shaped teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps
  • Worn or chipped teeth
  • Discoloration that won’t respond to teeth whitening treatment

How are veneers installed?

The team at Austin K. Brown, DDS usually installs veneers over two appointments. The procedure is minimally invasive and shouldn’t cause any discomfort.

During the first appointment, the team examines your teeth to ensure they are healthy enough to support veneers. Then they prepare your teeth for veneers by carefully removing a thin layer of your tooth enamel from the front of your teeth.

They then take a mold of your teeth, which is sent to the lab where they manufacture your permanent veneer. They fit a temporary veneer to protect your teeth while your custom veneer is made.

At your second appointment, the team removes your temporary veneer and bonds your permanent veneer to your teeth. They carefully check the fit of the veneer and your bite. Finally, they polish your veneer so it shines like natural teeth.

How should I take care of my dental veneers?

The team will give you instructions on how to care for your veneers. You should continue to brush and floss your teeth regularly and have routine dental checkups and cleanings. Dental veneers are resistant to decay, but the team still needs to examine and care for your natural teeth, gums, and jaw. Good dental hygiene extends the longevity of your veneers.
