Invisalign Q & A

               What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an advanced clear aligner system designed to straighten your teeth without metal brackets or any other hardware. Invisalign aligners fit snugly over your teeth and gradually move them into position without drawing attention to themselves.

Invisalign aligners are made from a smooth, flexible polyurethane material called SmartTrack®. SmartTrack material is intuitive and presses into your teeth with the exact amount of force it takes to move your teeth without hurting your teeth or gums.

What conditions can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign can correct crooked, crowded, or widely spaced teeth. It can also alleviate pain from numerous misalignments, including:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite
  • Cross bite

Misalignments like these can cause pain and discomfort ranging from occasional jaw clicking to excruciating migraines.

How do you get Invisalign?

If you’re interested in Invisalign, begin by scheduling an initial consultation at Austin K. Brown, DDS. During your consultation, your team discusses with you why you’re interested in Invisalign and explains the process to you.

If you and your team mutually decide that Invisalign is right for you, Dr. Brown scans your mouth using the iTero Element® scanner. The iTero scanner produces a comprehensive 3D image of your teeth.

Based on this scan, Invisalign creates aligners designed perfectly to move your teeth. Not only do they fit snugly around your teeth, but they also feature a customized gumline trimmed carefully for your comfort.

Every one to two weeks throughout the course of treatment, you receive a new set of aligners, which differ slightly from the previous set in order to continue shifting your teeth.

You can take your aligners out to eat, drink, and clean your teeth.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Typically, Invisalign treatment takes between 12 and 18 months to complete, but your exact length of treatment depends on Dr. Brown's recommendation, as well as your adherence to the program.

If you don’t wear your aligners for the prescribed amount of time, which is usually 20 to 22 hours a day, your results will take longer.

If you follow your treatment plan, you’ll likely begin to notice early results within weeks.
